Summer Classic Chess Tournament!

INSTRUCTIONS!

In order for us to run a SWISS tournaments, we have created the Summer Classic Chess Tournament. Only team members can participate. Therefore, our TEAM name for the tournament this Sunday is Summer Classic Chess Tournament.

STEP ONE: (Must be done by Saturday, June 20th at Midnight)

In order to participate, you must join the team. Once you join the team, tournaments you are invited to will automatically show up when you log into your Lichess account. Here are some visuals to help you join the team for the start of our program this weekend. Please try to do this by the latest Friday evening, so you have time to contact me if you have difficulties. When issues are not resolved early, players often miss out on the first round or the entire tournament. I sincerely wish this not to be the case this weekend!

STEP TWO: 

On the day of the tournament, check the google link sent to you via email to find out which group your child is participating in. They will be put into groups based on ratings (or those who are unrated). For example, if they are in Group A then they will choose the Group A tournament on Lichess so that they are only paired with players in their group.

STEP THREE:

If you are having any trouble with the instructions above or have questions during the tournament, you can reach me and any refs via the chat feature in Lichess or during the Zoom call. This information will be provided to you via email. 

We will be there from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm to support parents and players.

FAQ:

Will this tournament be Round Robin or SWISS based? The tournament will be a 5 round SWISS tournament. This means each player will only play 5 games and they will never play the same person twice. 

Who can participate in this tournament? Players 18 years old or younger can participate as long as they know how to checkmate. 

Will this tournament be rated? Yes, this tournament will be CMA rated

How will players be paired? Participants will be put into groups based on their ratings. If this is their first tournament, then they will play in the unrated group. 

Where can I find my child's rating? If your child has participated in a created CMA tournament before, then their rating can be looked up at the following link using their CMA ID or First and Last name: https://chess-math.org/ratings

Do I need to create a lichess.org account for my child? Yes. It must be created before your register for the tournament as their User ID is requested during registration. You can create a lichess account here: https://lichess.org/signup

How long will I have to wait to see the tournament results on the chess-math.org website? Please allow us 2-7 days to upload all tournament results. We will send out an email to participants when results are ready to view. 

Will there be a prize for the top 3 finishers of every group? Yes, information on this matter is still to be determined. 

When does registration close? Registration will close at midnight on Friday, June 19th. 

What is the cost of this online chess tournament? It costs $15.00 to participate. 

What are the time controls for the tournament? Depending on group and rating, time controls will be 10 minutes with a 3-second increment, 15 minutes with a 3-second increment, or 20 minutes with a 3-second increment. The more advanced the group, the more time they will be allotted. 

When will I receive instructions on how to join the tournament? Information will be emailed out to participants the week leading up to the tournament on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. (Please make sure to provide a valid email address during registration.)

The online tournament is based on the good faith and honesty of all participants. The same rules as the regular Chess’n Math Association tournaments apply. Competitors may not have recourse to the assistance of a third party, whether it be another player or software.

All games played are recorded automatically. We have software to assess the performance of players. In the event of a dispute, the tournament director may intervene and make a decision. He will have the power to change the result of a game if it is shown that a player has used outside help. His decision will be final.
