Montreal: Team Tournament

Thirty-five teams, with 131 players, took part in the Montreal School Team Tournament at College Jean-de-Brebeuf on February 28.

This popular event, organized by the Chess'n Math Association, is held three times each year. The next tournament (April 2-3) is the Quebec School Team Championship. Will anyone defeat the powerful team from Fernand-Seguin for first place?

PEI Chess Challenge

The Prince Edward Island Scholastic Championship was held at Colonel Gray High School in downtown Charlottetown on February 28. Fifty-four of the island’s best young players took part. The top three in each grade received trophies.

BRITISH COLUMBIA Chess Challenge

The B.C Provincial Chess Challenge took place at Columbia College in Vancouver  on February 21. The five round event attracted 115 players from across the province. The top three in each grade received trophies. The first place finishers also earned a spot on the BC team which will travel to Regina in May for the nationals finals. 

The tournament was impressively organized by Maxim Doroshenko and the Vancouver Chess School.

ALBERTA Youth Championship

The Delta Calgary Downtown Hotel was the site of the 2016 Alberta Youth Chess Championships. Eighty-two keen young minds battled each other for five rounds to see who would become provincial champion in their age group. Besides taking home trophies, winners also qualify for the Canadian Youth Chess Championships in Windsor, Ontario on July 5-8.
