Welcome to Montreal for the 32nd Annual Canadian Chess Challenge
The Chess and Math Association is happy to welcome the provincial champions from grade 1 to grade 12 at this national finals.
This event will be held at McGill University - New Residence Hall, Prince Arthur Ballroom (3625, Avenue du Parc, Montreal, H2X 3P8), on May 17-18, 2020 (Victoria Day weekend).
LOCATION AND SCHEDULE OF THE TOURNAMENT
The tournament will be held at New Residence Hall of McGill University, in the Prince Arthur Ballroom, located at 3625 Avenue du Parc, Montreal, H2X 3P8. The tournament will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17 & 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2020.
Please complete the online registration form (see below) by the deadline of May 1st, 2020. If you booked some meals or activities with us then you will have to complete the payment section at the end of the registration process. You can pay either by Interac e-Transfer OR Credit Card. If you select Money Transfer, you will receive an email with instructions for payment. For payment by credit card, an additional 3% charge will be added for administration fees.
AIRPORT ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES
We will arrange a free shuttle to pick-up and drop-off for each visiting province, getting to and from the New Residence Hall of McGill University. This will be available from Friday, May 15 to noon on Tuesday, May 19. The airport is 30 minutes from the Residence Hall by car/taxi. Due to the number of vehicles available, the shuttle service will be available primarily to and from the Montreal-Trudeau International Airport to the New Residence Hall of McGill University. If you plan to stay in other Downtown Hotel, you will have to use a taxi service.
New Residence Hall of McGill University
The New Residence Hall is located in a hotel converted into a university residence (located at 3625 Avenue du Parc, Montreal, Quebec H2X 3P8). You must reserve your room like a traditional hotel by calling this number: 514-398-5200. Please identify yourself to the reservation desk as a member of the Canadian Chess Challenge group to benefit from the special rate.
Single rooms (one double or queen size bed) and Double rooms (two double size beds) are available at $124 plus taxes. Each room has a private washroom. Triple occupancy is $144 ($20 more) and Quad occupancy is $164 ($40 more). Buffet breakfast is included in this rate. Children 12 and under sleep for free in existing room bedding configuration. Parking is available on site with a daily rate of $25.
A Banquet is organized Saturday May 16 at 6:00 pm, exact location to be announced. Registration cost is $15 for Provincial Champions & other children and $20 for adults (no ticket sales on site/advance purchase required).
Sunday and Monday lunches (May 17-18) will be served at the cafeteria located inside the New residence Hall. Registration cost is $15 for Provincial Champions & other children and $20 for adults (no ticket sales on site/advance purchase required).
OTHER CHESS ACTIVITIES
A speed chess tournament (Blitz) will be organized for 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 16 in the Prince Arthur Ballroom (same location as the tournament). Registration cost $20 ($30 on site). The Blitz is an open event. Parents, friends and the members of the public are also welcome to play.
Bughouse (double blitz – 5 rounds) will take place following the awards ceremony on Monday, May 18 with a cost of $10 per person ($20 per person on May 18). The Bughouse is an open event. Parents, friends and the members of the public are also welcome to play.
BUS TOUR OF MONTREAL - Visit on Saturday morning
A special 4-hour guided bus tour has been arranged for the Saturday morning May 16, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Pick-up at New Residence Hall (NRH) and drop-off at NRH as well. The cost of this is $30 for Provincial Champions & other children and $45 for adults. All children (under 16) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Spaces on this tour are limited.
